Our Story
Pleasant View began back in 1841 as a small country congregation meeting in the homes of simple people who loved Jesus. We had our first meeting just five years after Warsaw Indiana was settled!
We were blessed in the mid-nineteenth century to acquire land and build a wood-frame church on three acres on 200 N, just outside of Warsaw city limits in Kosciusko County. Some early growth in the 1880's led to a building campaign to replace the wood frame church with a stone building that would also add Sunday School rooms to the church. Our monument stone on the front of the old building proudly wears the 1884 date as a tribute to those faithful lovers of Jesus and the work and resources they contributed.
In the early decades of the twentieth century, God did many exciting things in our area. Various denominations have used our natural beauty and friendly community as the settings for camps, conferences, and headquarters throughout the years. The most famous son of our region in this regard is probably Billy Sunday, who based his ministry in Winona Lake, just a few miles down the road. Pleasant View has always participated in what God has done in our community.
In 1948, Grace College and Theological Seminary was founded nearby. From its founding, our church has worked closely with what God was doing there. Many of our Pastors have also been professors at the seminary, and many students attending Grace have called Pleasant View their home while in school.
In 1978, land was purchased adjacent to the church in order to make room for growth. A church sanctuary was gifted to our congregation from Eagledale Baptist Church in the Indianapolis area, disassembled, and trucked up to Warsaw, where it was reassembled on the new property. The new auditorium was packed immediately.
In 1985, Pleasant View built the education wing, including the gym, many new Sunday School classes, and church offices. God has done much to glorify Himself on this campus!
Our church has, from its outset, had a heart for missions. We are proud of the fact that a full third of our income goes to missions, globally as well as locally. We have sent dozens of our people into vocational missions, and we continue to pray for and support them as they serve Christ around the world.
From our founding almost 200 years ago in the living room of Mr. Elisha Dunnuck, we have grown to a church that, while not the largest in our town, has been blessed to walk faithfully with the Lord and be about His work for almost as long as our town has existed. By God's grace, we will continue to do so for many decades to come!
